Slack commands
Everything in Opsphie starts with /inc, a short alias for /incident. Arguments in brackets are optional: leave them out and Opsphie opens a form instead. In an incident channel, /inc on its own shows the incident's state and the actions for where it's at.
Start an incident
These work in any channel.
- /inc
- Start a new incident. In an incident channel, opens the incident menu instead.
- /inc new [title]
- Start a new incident. Tick Private for a private channel: it isn't announced, and only its participants and admins can see it, in Slack and the web app.
- /inc test [title]
- Start a test incident, to rehearse. Never announced and left out of reports.
- /inc convert [title]
- Start a new incident in the channel you're already in, instead of a new channel. Everyone in it becomes a participant. In a private channel, invite Opsphie first; the incident is private.
During an incident
These act on the incident of the channel you type them in.
- /inc update [message]
- Post a status update.
- /inc summary [text]
- Set the summary shown on the control panel.
- /inc sev [P0–P3]
- Change severity. P0 is the most severe.
- /inc status [investigating|identified|monitoring|resolved|closed]
- Change status.
- /inc commander [@user|me]
- Set the incident commander.
/inc icworks too. - /inc role [commander|manager|postmortem_runner] [@user|me|none]
- Assign a role. The manager is the stakeholder over the commander: accountable and kept informed. The postmortem runner gets the postmortem written. Use none to unassign one.
- /inc related [INC-12]
- Link a related incident. Without one, lists the linked incidents.
- /inc rename [title]
- Change the title.
- /inc private
- Make the incident private. It moves to a new private channel with everyone who took part, and only they and admins can see it. It can't be undone, and messages already in the public channel stay visible.
- /inc resolve [how it was fixed]
- Resolve the incident.
- /inc cancel [reason]
- Not actually an incident: cancel it. It's left out of reports.
After an incident
Also in the incident channel, usually once it's resolved.
- /inc postmortem
- Start the postmortem from your workspace's default template, and get a link to write it in the web app.
- /inc remediation [title]
- Add a remediation. With Jira connected, it becomes a Jira issue.
- /inc remediations
- List the incident's remediations.
- /inc close
- Close the incident.
Anywhere
These work in any channel.
- /inc list
- See the incidents in progress.
- /inc settings
- Choose the channel incidents are announced in. Admins only: anyone else sees the current channel.
- /inc help
- Show every command in Slack.
The timeline
Every change made with /inc or the control panel's buttons is recorded on the incident's timeline as it happens.
To keep a message from the incident channel, react to it with 📌, or use the Add to timeline message shortcut. Anyone who joins the incident channel is added as a responder.
The Declare incident message shortcut starts an incident from any message, like an alert or a customer report, and links the two both ways.
